- AMENDMENT TO THE
-
- GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE
- Version 2, June 1991
-
- The original GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE document is copyrighted by:
-
- Free Software Foundation, Inc.
- 675 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA
-
- This document is written by Gregg Jennings, 02-Jun-1993.
- P O Box 200
- Falmouth MA 02540-0200
-
- Update:
-
- 13-Nov-1993 - clarification of Amendment II.
-
- Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies
- of this license document, but changing it is not allowed. Adding
- to it as I have done in encouraged!
-
-
- I inherently aggree will the GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE by FSF, there
- are a few points that are unclear and even contradictory that I would
- like to point out.
-
- Any person(s) wishing to distribute any program (as defined by the
- GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE) created or copyrighted by Gregg Jennings
- must adhere to this AMENDMENT.
-
- Any person(s) wishing to use or modify any program (as defined by the
- GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE) created or copyrighted by Gregg Jennings
- for THEIR OWN PERSONAL USE, can do so WITHOUT RESTRICTION.
-
-
- Amendment I.
-
- TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING, DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION item 0,
- paragraph 2.
-
- Change:
-
- "You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy, and
- you may at your option offer warranty protection in exchange for a fee."
-
- To:
-
- "You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy, but
- you may not offer warranty protection in exchange for a fee."
-
- Reasoning:
-
- It is my belief that anyone who offers a warranty of any kind, for
- another person or persons work undermines the entire idea behind the
- distribution and support of a "free work".
-
- According to paragraph six of the GNU:
-
- "Also, for each author's protection and ours, we want to make certain
- that everyone understands that there is no warranty for this free
- software. If the software is modified by someone else and passed on, we
- want its recipients to know that what they have is not the original, so
- that any problems introduced by others will not reflect on the original
- authors' reputations."
-
- This is not just a contradiction in the GNU. If a warranty is given by
- someone other than the original creator(s) of the program, the creator(s)
- reputation is directly at stake.
-
-
- Amendment II
-
- paragraph 10.
-
- There is no need to inform me of the free use of small parts of my work,
- any "function" or "module" may be freely used in any way and permission is
- freely given. Re-distribution of the whole is okay without permission as
- long as proper author recognition is intact.
